There Mwende was. Staring into the mirror, noticing a sty in her eye, but that wouldn't bother her. She had bigger things to think about. Literally. What, you may ask? A foetus.
Contrary to how any 19 year-old would feel about the situation, she was beyond ecstatic. Excitement. One that had not been known to her. It is as though the man-made mass upregulated her dopamine receptors.
She was excited to see how her nubile body would morph into a utilitarian facility. To house and nourish a mass that would later develop into a human being. In her mind, she could already picture herself, with a bulging nose, a belly big enough to cover her feet from bird's eye view, well rounded tender breasts that would gush out milk in torrents on command. Those that wound shake and jiggle on any delicate movement, begging to be emptied. All these thoughts made her let out a chortle. Her eccentric thought processes grew wilder and more intriguing by the second.
“Boy or girl, Wasike and I will love you. That I know,” Mwende said rubbing her belly as if lulling the mass gently.
Her pregnancy also meant that Wasike’s love for her would double. That is what he said. So mwende knew that she was in safe hands. Besides, Wasike was different. Not like the other Nairobi men. He would never abandon his own child. Mwende had known him for five months alright, but he just felt different.
She turned her back to the mirror, now facing her room. Her mind made up. She had to pack a bag and leave her parents house and go to Wasike’s where she'd break the news to him with an effrontery out of this world. And then they'd live happily ever after. Her clandestine meet-ups with him bore fruit. Only that this one was not edible.
She couldn't stay home. She knew her parents would not share her joy. As for the upcoming university admission, that could wait.
Besides, dogmatism brews fallacies, if you think about it.
You sure will. Thus one must have a continuation!!😂
